Nobody makes rap music like Mos Def, or at least not exactly like him – you may mention Black Eyed Pees, Erica, and The Roots in the same breath as him, but the style and sound is still different. One more thing that sets Mos Def's album The New Danger apart from other hip-hop albums out there is that he dare to be political. He comment on society like I haven't heard in commercial available rap in ages. This is an album that will appeal to older audience who are past braggadocio and bling blinging.

Chances are you might already have cached the in your face rock infested The Rape Over targeting both the corporate industry and the average I to willing to be famous from the hood rap star. But if you think that's the the sound of The New Danger, you are wrong – the album spans from rock to classic rhythm and blues to jazz and back to rock in a blend you would only expect from say a certain Tahitian.

Mos both sings and raps with ease though you might argue he does one better then the other, but telling which is hard as it varies from song to song. I tend to think he is better on the blues songs then the almost hard rock. Listen for example to the appealing voice on The Boggie Man Song and the Blue Black Jack who brings you back to the days of the great masters. The best title comes about half way trough the album and is titled, Sunshine. A true hip hop song with authentic Brooklyn style, and Mos Def at his most best narrative.

If you like a new experience or already have a bit of taste for not to mainstream music you could do worse then taking a closer listen to this new danger, maybe you will end up like me – wondering why you didn't buy months ago :)
