Dido: Life for rent
POSTED 08 - OCTOBER - 2003 ON NEVARANTA.COM

Remember
the sweet voice from eminem’s major hit about Stan? Yes, I’m talking about the
un-categorize-able Dido who topped the charts a while ago. She is back with an
even stronger album then her debut. Teaming up with her brother Rollo (from
british-techno-band-of-fame Faithless) as a producer the album has become a pleasurable
experience for both the ears and soul.
At first it
might sound like a sweet pop-ish album, but the longer you listen the more you
notice small variation and new layers that lifts up and makes it stand out from
other comparable artists.
Just like
the black & white and a bit out of focus picture on the cover, Dido paints
her words artistically leaving you to interpreter the colors, just hinting
rather then spelling out things. The best texts are introspective and the best
tracks on the album features not much more then her, at times, naked voice.
It’s a warm
and enigmatic album for those cold winter days, something to listen to when you
want to float away for a second, though some of the material is good for
everyday background music also. If you haven’t heard Dido yet, I suggest you
take a closer look (or rather listen) – I think you might be surprised. Verdict 7(-)/10
