First time
I started watching this movie I thought I was heading for a rip of, it started
with a old fashioned use of camera, and sound recorded on the set with all the
background noises there are. Surely it wasn’t a low budget European art movie I
had signed up for, or?
Shortly
summed up the movie introduce to an middle age English woman ( Charlotte
Rampling) , a crime writer who suffer sort of a writers block after years of
success with here continuous crime series – her publisher suggest she go to his
vacation home in France to gather inspiration.
It’s just
part of the movies style which in every way is a bit old fashioned (movie technical
wise), but it has – as I found, a fascinating story, though I would never have
known if it wasn’t for super sexy Ludivine Sagnier, who plays the writer’s
publisher’s daughter, entering the picture just when I was about to give the
movie up. But that was the cinema release – now for the unrated DVD. :)
For those
who hoped for a more raunchy film just because it’s labelled unrated I would
have to disappoint you all it means is there are more nudity which might excite
some – what it does for the movie though it make the cutting more naturally, or
to put it another way more as the editor intended it to be.
As the
movie progress we are drawn into a story that with hidden facts. The movie
takes time to capture every sense of the atmosphere where it’s filmed – it is
as you can smell and feel the little French village.
Though the
film might seem to progress slowly at times you will not realise that you spent
1 hours and 43 minutes watching as the end title screen appears, which would in
my book count for some of the factor of what makes a captivating movie.
SPOILER
ALERT: The interesting plot comes at the end of the movie when we learn that
(as far I gathered) at some point in the movie the story the author writes and
what we see merged, interesting twist.
